Avocado pit turning green?

I wanted to try and grow an avocado tree so I took the pit and balanced it in a jar full of water with tooth picks. it’s been almost 2 months. The out side skin of the pit has fallen off and the avocado is “splitting” open at the bottom. In the last 2 weeks starting from the top tip and starting to surround the pit where it is splitting is turning green. It looks like something is dyeing the pit green. Does this mean the pit is finally starting to grow or something else?
If it was molding I’d expect something like hairy mold stuff growing on it. The only thing I can compare it to is bean seeds going green when growing.

Give it another week–if it’s sprouting, you’ll see a little stem peeking out. When the stem is about six inches long, plant your avocado! Unfortunately, it might just be rotting, but don’t give up yet.
